Hurricane Ike: Ohio 2008

by Joe on September 18, 2008

Earlier this year, my wife and I woke up in the middle of the night and had the following half asleep exchange:

My Wife: Are you shaking?
Me: Yes.
My Wife: Why?
Me: I’m not doing the shaking.

After which we promptly fell right back asleep. We came to realize that in our half asleep conversation we experienced our first earthquake right in the heart of it all, Ohio!

wind tumbleweedFast forward 5 months, while driving back from a family party in Michigan we realized that there was severe wind damage through most of Ohio. My sister-in-law reported that a back-yard trampoline was rolling across I-75 like tumbleweed. Turns out, we were driving down the highway in hurricane force winds.

So, our great state of Ohio seems to be this beacon of natural disasters. It makes things interesting, but places like Cincinnati are we not prepared. Some have even dubbed it Survivor: Cincinnati.  Matt and Leah were in line for a roller coaster when the hurricane winds knock a tree onto the coaster’s track !  My brother saw first hand how a power outage can cause a campus riot

So what is your Midwest hurricane story?  Are you still waiting for power?  Let us know how you were affected by the wind!
